2004 RULES


GREEN MEADOW WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
2004 RULES OF PLAY (18-HOLE GOLFERS)

USGA RULES govern play, except when local rules prevail.

1.  "Winter rules' or preferred lies' will be determined by the Pro Shop; otherwise, Rules of Golf should be observed.  If the Pro Shop declares "preferred lies," a ball lying on a "fairway"; may be lifted and cleaned without penalty, placed within one club length of where it originally lay, not nearer the hole.

2.  Water on the front side is played as lateral water hazard except #9. (Rule 26-1)

3.  Ground under repair (GUR) is marked in white.  (Rule 25-1

4.  Sodded Areas are considered ground under repair.  Player may take nearest point of relief, lift the ball, and drop it within one club length, no closer to the hole.

5.  Flower beds are defined as obstructions."  If the ball lies in or on the obstruction, or so close to the obstruction that it interferes with the player's stance or the area of intended swing.  Free drop (Rule 24).

6.  Small young trees marked with tape;  If such a tree interferes with a player's stance or the area of the intended swing, the ball must be lifted without penalty and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b (immovable obstruction).

7.  Mulch around trees:  Mulched areas around trees are loose impediments.  Play the ball as it lies.  (Rule 23).

8.  Hole #1 -- If a ball is in the drainage ditch along the road, player may obtain relief by taking nearest point of relief, lifting the ball and dropping it within one club length, no closer to the hole.

9.   Hole #9 -- If a ball goes into the water off the tee, tee another ball and add one stroke penalty.

10.  Hole #10 -- Cross ties supporting #13 teeing ground are declared to be an integral part of the course.  Therefore, there is no relief granted, even though the interfering object is artificial.

11.  Hole #16 -- The ditch across the fairway (not in the rough) is treated as ground under repair.  Player may take nearest point of relief, lift the ball and drop it within one club length no closer to the hole.

12.  Local Rule -- Out of bounds stakes not pertinent to the hole being played-- Allow player to obtain relief by determining nearest point of relief, lifting the ball and dropping it within one club length, no closer to the hole.  

13.  If at anytime there is a question, announce and play a provisional ball.  Consult with the Golf Professional at the end of play.  (Exception -- Match Play -- See USGA Rules of Golf 2-5).

14.  Scorecards -- Sign and date the "official'; scorecard.  Turn it in to the Ladies Day Chairman promptly after completing the round.  Identify "sandies" and "chip-ins."  Indicate the "adjusted scores" for handicap purposes so they can be entered accurately into the computer by the Ladies Day committee.  Also total putts for each player listed on the scorecard.
